T his party is 100% kid approved! We started this tradition when our youngest daughter was just 4, running around in her Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer shirt, her hair in a high pony tail held with a sparkly and rather tacky Christmas Scrunchie (that still managed to look oh so cute). She giggled and was in awe of all the fun sweaters, hats and accessories! Now at the age of 10, her and her 5 year old sister have already made their count down calendars for the Tacky Christmas Sweater Party 2014! Heck with our new tacky vest and sweater hanging up waiting to be shown off, my husband and I are just as excited!
This party is all about keeping things creative and fun! Below I've listed some fun ideas to help you plan the most Perfect Tacky Sweater Christmas Party, a party that even the most Grinch-like people will thoroughly enjoy!
Tacky Sweaters, Tee's, Vests & Aprons Oh my!
It can be difficult to find tacky sweaters and shirts for kids but I did find these adorable festive Aprons from the Dollar store and they were perfect!
Accessories are a great touch, think Elf slippers, Christmas socks, Christmas bulb earrings, tacky red scrunchies, funny ties, Santa hats, the list is endless!
Play all those Christmas carols with Pride, as well as some old school tunes ie; Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, All I want for Christmas (is you) by Mariah Carey, Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt!
This backdrop is Christmas wrapping paper! Provide some props for your guests to pose with (Kids have a blast with these pics)! You could even print a copy for each guest to be sent as a reminder of their fun night out at your Tacky Christmas Sweater Party!
Potluck dinner? Appetizers? whichever you decide on..sweets are always a popular addition and why not try baking up some yummy, funny Tacky Sweater Sugar Cookies! I found this kit pictured below at a store called "Five Below" in the U.S but these kits are also available at select stores in Canada!
Snow Ball Toss is fun! Divide into teams, each person gets a turn to throw 6 "snowballs" (we used Styrofoam balls) into a waste basket, box, bowl..whatever you have. Tally up the collective amount of snowballs that reached the receptacle for each team!
Set Up A Craft Station for the kids! Include some folded up construction paper. markers and stickers so they can make Christmas cards for their family and friends. The little cuties will feel so proud bringing home the cards they made!
Play A Christmas Trivia Game!
- Pick a host!
- Break into 2 teams
- Players from each team face off..(each gets a set of jingle bells)
- The first person to jingle their bells after the question is asked; answers the question and if correct, gets a point for their team!
- Keep going until all Trivia questions have been answered! (Have a few tie breaker questions ready in the event of a tie! )
- Winners get Candy Canes! Losers get a lump of Coal LOL!
Another fun idea, (if this isn't your first Tacky Christmas Sweater Party) is to make and play a Slide Show of pictures of your previous Tacky Christmas Sweater Parties! Pair the slide show with Christmas music and your guests eyes will be glued to the screen, nothing better then re-playing fun memories!!! We make a slide show every year containing pictures from the previous years party and its a hit!!!
