This is a great way to recycle a cardboard box. Just cut off the lid, grab some glue and Scrap booking paper or gift wrap to cover the box. Use a hole punch or a pair of scissors to poke a hole on each side for your child. Decorate the mailbox with stickers and other craft supplies then affix a ribbon so the mailbox can hang on a door knob. This is great for parents to surprise their little ones with a letter or treat; just drop it in their mailbox to be discovered! My kids loved this craft and love receiving mail from each other and from Mommy and Daddy!! The kids made my husband and I a mailbox as well and they love leaving us little notes!
We purchased these t-shirts for $2 at Dollarama, the Fabric writers were from Walmart under $10 but you can purchase the fabric paint at Dollar stores as well and a little goes a long way. (Also a cute idea for slumber parties, as they would have time to dry over night)
Providing you are an outdoor allergy free household, its not too late in the season to fill a vase or a mason jar with a fabulous bouquet of wild flowers! This little gem kept my kitchen looking pretty for 3 days. Also sweet to surprise a relative with a gorgeous bunch of freshly picked blooms!
Whether you miss camping or camping is simply not your thing, an indoor camping trip can be a pretty fun alternative!
First we set up a tent (complete with a wild "linx" that snuck inside), then went to the couch to collect our firewood (a.k.a megablocks) we stuck some glo w sticks in a container of Play Doh in the middle of the blocks to act as our "flame." Instead of roasting marshmallows we ate Oreos and pretend roasted raspberries on skewers (sharp tips removed). The great part of camping inside is you have access to YouTube and the many camp songs that YouTube has. We listened and sang along to songs such as "Herman The Worm" , "Going On A Bear Hunt" and "Down By The Bay."
Pick up some plain brown paper on a roll (parcel paper, this one was from the Dollar store), lightly tape in place on a table, supply some writing materials and let your little Artists provide you with the most interesting table covering ,you have ever enjoyed your meals on!
Pull out all of those forgotten about Board Games, set out some yummy snacks and call the kids for a Board Game tournament! Play games, eat snacks and have a blast as a family!
Set up a pile of books on a small table or the floor, whatever works. Construct a fake Library card out of paper, use any object you want as a scanner when the books are "checked out." (we use a converter and my kids make a high pitched fake beeping noise haha). My gals (the Librarians) like to gather some musical instruments to play and sing songs after they have read the children (dolls and stuffies) some books. (and..yes that is a Hannah Montana guitar that was purchased for my daughter in Mileys "pre-Wrecking Ball days" LOL )
Kids love seeing pictures of themselves when they were merely the size of a Cabbage Patch doll, they think it's fun to see evidence of the troubles they got into as a toddler. Take out a pile of photo albums or sift through old photos on your computer or phone, trust me kids love this!
Most kids like this childhood classic game where you hide an object somewhere in the house and say WARM as the child is getting closer to it. You say HOT if they are very close to it, say BURNING UP when they are extremely close to the object and COOL and COLD when they are nowhere near it! We play this over and over and the kids hide objects for us to find as well.
Simply cut a paper towel roll in half and glue it on the paper to form the 3D tree trunk, next roll pieces of tissue paper into a ball shape and glue on to form the tree and apples.
We all did this as kids! My daughter coloured a piece of paper then folded the width of the paper over one way, then the other and back and fourth until she had a fabulous multi-coloured fan!
All you need is
- Card Stock
- a hole punch
- ribbon
- stickers
Borrow Some Joke Books From The Library and gather the family to put on a comedy show! Everyone takes a turn going up to the "Stage" (ie: a blanket laid out on the floor) to tell some jokes! For the little ones who can't read, somebody can whisper the joke in their ear for them to repeat out loud to the "crowd". You can make a sign out of Bristol Board that reads "The ______ Family Comedy Show." Also fun to do at small family functions. Get Grandparents, aunts and uncles involved too! |
